Synopsis: Charlotte picks up a stranger, Max, who is hitchhiking along a small country lane. The kilometres clock up and something happens between them. They stop to eat at a roadside restaurant. Max goes to the toilet, but does not come back. Charlotte unsuccessfully searches for him as the manageress watches on warily. She decides to contact Chinaski, an old cynical ex-policeman.

During her investigation, Charlotte would discover something unbelievable: the roadside restaurant is the hunting ground of a woman who kidnaps the customers to feed the survivors of an accident that happened in a nearby mine thirty years ago. The survivors were affected by a strange gas and the years of being locked away have changed them into real monsters. They can no longer bear light and feed off the unlucky people that stop at the roadside restaurant.
