Synopsis : Uruguay 1966. AURELIO SAAVEDRA (43), an influential politician, brings MASANGELES (7), his illegitimate daughter, home after her mother has committed suicide. Masangeles realises that she has to adapt to survive in this house of egoistic lunatics, while a civil war is raging outside between amateur guerillas and cruel soldiers. Five years later, Masángeles, who is now 13, discovers the secret passage of Santiago, her half-brother, which leads to the church where he hides people, weapons and stolen money. Increasingly attracted to him, Masángeles ends up seducing him. Yet Santiago must flee as he is wanted by the soldiers. Masángeles realises that she is pregnant. On the day of the military coup, Santiago is arrested but the lorry carrying him has an accident and explodes in front of his house and sets it on fire. The fire spreads quickly and gets closer to Masángeles who has gone in labour just as the house is on the point of being completely burnt down. She must take the secret passage…
